Planning CRT for Human Body topic

I wanted to plan my CRT using a range of ICT links and activities that would cater for all students in the class. I wanted them to have a practical activity which was drawing around the human body and locating the main internal organs, and also making the skeleton with split pins to help them learn the skeletal system. I also wanted to use song and dance to make it fun and also link Te Reo so the parts of the body could be learnt with the Maori names.

I adapted the lesson plan for Room 5 who are New Entrants and they are unable to read some of the words. I created a cutting and sticking activity for them. I also had to change it for Room 11 as that class has no Mimio and the children did not have access to some of the digital tools.

Computer in Homes

One of our goals for e-learning was engaging Whanau. We got presented a proposal at the end of 2015 for Computer in Homes. It is run by 20/20 trust and the Ministry and it provides 20 hours of free computer training to Whanau and for a cost of $50 they get given a refurbished computer and a subsidized internet connection.
We sent out a flyer to parents and got about 35 responses. I decided to run two sessions Monday and Fridays and I would be the trainer. 35 were signed off but by about week 3 25 were still coming regularly to the sessions. I planned the sessions to give the partipants practical experiences using a range of tools that our tamariki use in their learning.

Our aim is that Whanau feel more confident in their own ability using computers and this enables them to understand what their tamariki are learning at school and that having a computer at home offers the students more opportunities to extent learning beyond the classroom.


We had 25 participants in the two sessions that I ran. The parents said this course gave them more confidence to help their children with their homework.

Planning

I have been experimenting with different templates for weekly planning since we moved to Google Docs late 2014.

2014 Weekly planning

At the beginning of 2015 we had GAFE training and I was introduced to Google Sheets. I had a model of planning shared with me and I created a template using Sheets.
I found it quite difficult to work with. It had limited space to add detail and  if you wanted to write a second line you could not use enter you had to click alt and another key.
I liked that you could add different sheets with different data on it but it did frustrate me so after a week I decided to return to Google Docs.

I really liked the fact that I could embed other documents. So my Long term plans could be embedded. Class description was embedded, links and resources could be embedded.

I used separate Reading and Writing and Mathematics and Statistics plans.
I als linked the Digital Daily 5 activities. I taught Tina-Ree to use Google Docs so the collaborative nature of Google Docs helped in our Job Share position
